Having an acne break out - can I use over the counter medications for it ?

It is said that if you are having a boy, your skin would be glowing. If you are having a girl, your skin will be prone to acnes and pimples because your daughter would "steal" your glow. For me, I used my regular facial wash everyday (Biore pink tube) and if there was a need I would have seek my gynae's advise first about which ingredients should I be avoiding.
