Chinese Pregnancy Taboos

Hi, has anyone had any experience with moving between homes or setting up baby’s room while pregnant? I’ve heard from my relatives and older colleagues in office that it disrupts the baby’s spirit if you move home or renovate while pregnant. Advised best to stay put at ‘original’ home cos not sure if the new home’s qi is suitable for baby. I’m still waiting for my BTO and am currently staying at my parents’ and parents-in-law’s every alternate month. Technically it’s not a new home but it is moving between places every month. But then again what happens to those bubs conceived while on holiday??? Remain on holiday meh? Obviously we also need to make room for a nursery for when baby is out. But with all the taboos in place, it seems like my hands are tied. Anyone with any advice or similar experience??? Was your baby healthy?? #pregnancy #firsttimemom #pregnancytaboos #chinesesuperstitions

i would suggest to do things to your comfort level, and practicality. my mum and aunts all said cannot move furniture, don’t set up baby cot etc during pregnancy. do it only after birth. but we do not know when is the birth until bb is born (if natural birth). and only assemble baby cot after birth? that’s going to be so mafan, and create unnecessary stress if your husband need to do it all alone, while concerned about you and bb at the hosp. so what we did was doing all the moving, setting up etc before birth. my husband and some help to do all these, while i stay out of the house. if all these cannot be done before birth, then how do the western countries ppl do nesting before birth too? it’s about what you believe in.

actually i had pregnancy loss last year too, and we didn’t even move any furnitures or whatsoever. it was just genetically unhealthy baby. hmmm technically our baby is still unborn yet. and we didn’t do any ritual or whatsoever before the move. it’s just myself stepping out of the house (going shopping etc) while they do the moving. but of course, we did the moving without letting the elders know. hahahaha! if you want, no harm doing the ritual that you know of, before the moving etc. for a peace of mind!
