Ah, ear infections can be quite uncomfortable for the kids. My son had something similar last year and we brought him to our family doctor first, who confirmed it was an outer ear infection and prescribed some ear drops. It cleared up within about a week or so once we started the treatment, though the tenderness took a bit longer to fully go away. I'd say it's worth bringing your child to see the PD or GP soon just to be safe, because they can properly examine the ear and give you the right medication rather than guessing at home. A few of my mum friends have also had their kids seen by ENT specialists if it kept recurring, but usually the first visit to the doctor sorts it out quite quickly.
