There is no extra dollar, the kid is broke as hell and he still owes his parents $49 each. He never gained a dollar. If he returns the dollar he still owe his parents $97 which is the cost of his shirt. That being said, don’t let your kid borrow money from you to make useless purchases, it’s a bad habit.
