Travel with 6mo

FTM here! Im planning to bring my 6mo bb travelling soon. Im nervous as: 1) I will be taking a short flight to Malaysia (scared she cry, what can I do to make it easier for my bb, any tips?). 2) Bb will be starting solids (early month) and Im not sure what to feed her when we’re overseas (mid month) as I am planning to make my own food when I start solid with her.. Im afraid that if she’s so used to eating “home food” when I feed her “ready made food” like Gerber she won’t want to eat it? Thanks in advanced! 😀

Aiyoh congrats on your first trip with bb, don't worry too much! My friend brought her 6-month-old to KL last year and she swore by feeding during takeoff and landing, really helps with the ear pressure, so latch or bottle right when the plane moves, and try to book a flight close to bb's nap time so she hopefully just conk out lah. Someone in my mum WhatsApp group also mentioned changing bb right before boarding and bringing the carrier you already use at home, so bb feels settled and your hands are free. On the solids thing, a few mums I know actually started introducing pouches or Gerber here and there even before the trip, just so bb is not totally blur when she sees it overseas, and most said bb adjusted fine; some had a fussier eater but honestly at 6 months milk is still the main thing, so even if she rejects the ready-made food a meal or two, don't stress. My neighbour also packed those Pigeon steriliser tablets which are super compact and easy for bottles on the go, game changer she said. Overall the short flight to Malaysia is quite manageable, just go in relaxed and ask the cabin crew for help with luggage, no shame one!

FTM nerves are totally normal! 😊 1 - A lot of babies actually do better on flights than we expect 😅 For takeoff and landing, feeding (breast, bottle, or pacifier) can help with the ear pressure changes. Bringing a familiar toy, blanket, and an extra outfit for both baby and yourself is always a good idea too. And if she cries, don't stress too much - most people are more understanding than we think! 2 - At 6 mos, milk is still baby's main source of nutrition, so don't worry if solids aren't perfect during the trip 😊 Many babies are happy to switch between homemade and ready-made purees. You could even try a few ready-made pouches or jars before travelling so it's not completely new overseas. A short trip is unlikely to undo all your hard work with homemade food! Enjoy the trip, mama! Travelling with a baby can feel daunting the first time, but it's often much smoother than we imagine ✈️👶🏻
