My youngest child is 4 and she started recognising shapes when she was perhaps one and half years old or may be a few months more. But not all shapes, just a few being, triangle, circle, square, oval and rectangle. But my neice loved to play and make her learn new things, so she also made her know the shape of pentagon and hexagon too. I was too excited to see then how she knew even the less familiar ones. And she knew most of the colours. She could make out all the common colours. But she did not know say; indigo, violet, fluorescent green etc.

If you are actively involved in talking to your child and showing them the different shapes and colours regularly they will be able to point out quite a few from about 15 months. My children were able to do so from about that age.
