Subsidised switching to Private KKH

Hello! Does anyone know when’s the best time to switch to private route? I’m currently under subsidised route in KKH and my previous appointment made me question, if I really had to waste this much time just to get to an appointment which lasted under 5 mins. For context, I’m 15 weeks 4 days today and I left KKH after 4 hours of doing nothing but just waiting :D hurts my butt I’m not gonna lie. For my previous pregnancies, I was with Dr Heng at Parkway East Hospital and the waiting time wasn’t this bad (45min-1hr) so it was a culture shock for me when I had to wait this long just to see Dr to get my blood test results and listen to baby’s heartbeat. Not even a scan. It felt like I waited for so long and came back with nothing. Totally not worth my time!!! On top of that, I must have caught some virus while lingering around the hospital for hours and I’ve been feeling awful for 2 days now. Even my 18 mth old daughter is down with fever. Enough with ramblings, I’m actually more drawn to Dr Ada Ng, a close friend of mine recommended her for being empathetic and thoughtful which is what I feel like is the most important aspect for a mummy-to-be. Does anyone know what her charges are like? And if there’s a package, how much does she charge you? I’m also open recommendations to other doctors in KKH. TYIA! #3rdpregnancy #2ndbaby #kkh #subsidisepatient

Hi. I think im in the same situation as u. I did 1 scan at week 8 and FTS scan so far. My last appt at 15 weeks they also merely gave me my blood test results and check baby’s heartbeat (dr was nicer so did a quick scan of baby but not clear). The wait time for me was about 1 hour for me. Im also thinking of switching to private as i find that the visits are not really value-adding. But have not made any concrete plans to switch as i am not sure if i should wait till after 20 weeks scan (at subsidised rate).

Hi! For my first pregnancy, I started off under subsidised route at KKH and switched to private gynae at MNH when I was in 2nd trimester and from what I understand the best time to switch is after all the basic blood tests and NIPT/FTS has been done under subsidised route, reason being to save cost. If all’s good with the pregnancy in 1st trimester, stock up on as many prenatal vitamins as you can from the hospital as they can get expensive at a private clinic.

Consultation charges at KKH private or sub are standard across the doctors and published on their website. I'm not sure of package cost but it would also be decided by KKH instead of the doctors. I'm currently pregnant with first kid so I can't advise the best time to switch but personally I feel if you've found a Dr you're comfortable with might be good to switch earlier so there's better continuity of care throughout the visits.

I’m Kkh private patient, I’ve been seeing the same doctor since my first appointment in Kkh because I like to stick to the same doctor and get to scan and see bb every appointment. Waiting for me wasn’t so bad it’s around 30mins - 1 hour most of the time, and each time consultation cost about $130

I delivered with Dr Ada for both my pregnancies, she’s patient and reassuring. If planning to go private, expect 200-300 per visit depending on what’s being done and tested. If $ is not an issue, better to switch when she’s still available.

May I know so far how many scan did you do? I also realize KKH don't do scan often. I'm on 15 weeks but so far only did one scan upon my first visit

Me too on the subsidized route. Anomaly scan is it referring to the optional FTS for Down syndrome? I heard my friend who went NUH on subsidized route, she said basically every visit will at least do a basic scan. Seems like KKH don't do that so often.
