Do mosquito patches really work? Or do I need to supplement with repellant?

I previous use greenbaby too on my daughter and it's pretty effective but however, it leaves a sticky residue on her shirts after I peel it off so I switch to using repellent. I'm using california baby (love this brand!) and has a pleasant smell. It works, so far haven't had my daughter complaint of any bites.
