Gestational Diabetes

Hi, currently pregnant baby#3. For my #1, I failed the glucose test n had GDM. For my 2nd, I also had GDM but my results were higher than 1st. I took metformin for 2nd pregnancy. Now I'm worried for the 3rd pregnancy I just found out I'm pregnant. 1st baby: didn't do postpartum test (can't rmb if required to test but need to aft 1yr of giving birth) but was pregnant b4 1yr 2nd baby: do postpartum test and result still showed I failed. So the nurse told me to follow up 1yr at polyclinic, pregnant again b4 1yr test Is it possible for my 3rd if I didn't get GDM? I'm currently trying to limit my diet n try to take lesser carbs whenever I can. I'm also eating in lesser portion now. GDM really makes me feel so useless as a mom. I know it's caused by hormones n placenta but I can't help feeling so down abt it. Is there any other way to help bring down the sugar levels without relying just on meds? And also is it possible if I had GDM again but don't require to take metformin?

Hey there, don't put too much stress on yourself on this. I also had GDM despite living a healthy lifestyle before pregnancy. I also initially cut down on carbs, but doctor highly disagreed with it as carbs have nutritional values to help baby grow. Here are some of my hacks during my pregnancy to curb GDM: 1) take a table spoon of vinegar (balsamic vinegar type) before meals. Or add vinegar to your dishes to curb the sugar spike after meals. 2) eat your meals in this order - Vegetables, proteins, fats, carbs. 3) Increase your intake of vegetables during meals. This will help to cushion the sugar spike! 4) before eating anything new, I will always Google the glycemic index for the food to ensure it's not too high. The lower the GI, the slower the sugar reaches your blood. 5) be as active and move/workout to keep your heart rate up. This will lower the sugar spikes. You can also take a 15 mins walk after every meal to lower the sugar spikes. Unfortunately despite my best efforts to keep the blood sugar down, my blood sugar is still quite high in the 3rd tri and doctor suggested me to take insulin jabs on top of my daily hacks. 😅 But eventually baby came out healthy and strong. All is well. You can do it! 💪
