Hey there, don't put too much stress on yourself on this. I also had GDM despite living a healthy lifestyle before pregnancy. I also initially cut down on carbs, but doctor highly disagreed with it as carbs have nutritional values to help baby grow. Here are some of my hacks during my pregnancy to curb GDM: 1) take a table spoon of vinegar (balsamic vinegar type) before meals. Or add vinegar to your dishes to curb the sugar spike after meals. 2) eat your meals in this order - Vegetables, proteins, fats, carbs. 3) Increase your intake of vegetables during meals. This will help to cushion the sugar spike! 4) before eating anything new, I will always Google the glycemic index for the food to ensure it's not too high. The lower the GI, the slower the sugar reaches your blood. 5) be as active and move/workout to keep your heart rate up. This will lower the sugar spikes. You can also take a 15 mins walk after every meal to lower the sugar spikes. Unfortunately despite my best efforts to keep the blood sugar down, my blood sugar is still quite high in the 3rd tri and doctor suggested me to take insulin jabs on top of my daily hacks. 😅 But eventually baby came out healthy and strong. All is well. You can do it! 💪

I also have GDM. I am 44 years old with 1st pregnancy, GA 19+ wk. I decide to on diet control, use Glucose Strip test and just bought a Continuous Glucose Monitoring device to see the pattern of the glucose level after eating each meal/food. It was found that only small amount of rice/noodles can cause my sugar to increase from 80 mg/dL to 150 mg/dL. A 3-in-1 coffee with less sweet caused my sugar upto 120. So, I eat very low carb diet, no rice/noodles/bread/cake/ice cream/ sweet drink/snacks,etc and eat more on protein, like eggs, milk, chicken, etc. Protein diet can make me very full and keep sugar level less than 100 mg/dl. I get use to no sweet flavour now and I will do it for life to prevent type 2 Diabetes after giving birth, and consequently chronic illness from DM. You can do it 💪😀

Hi I have GD too, but mine is quite mild as I failed the first hour test but passed the second hour test. I am not medicated and they give me optional if I want to see dietician. I realised that the pricking test results are lower whenever I moved alot during the day. Maybe can try to walk more and be more active. Mood definitely affects too, so try to be happier and worry less 💪🏻

hello, firstly, don't be so hard on yourself mummy! personally for me, I am able to manage GDM with just diet, but it is not easy. I was just borderline. my doctor did mention that it depends on the hormones released by your placenta that determines if it can be controlled by diet or not. all the best and sending you loads of hugs!
