Usually between 18 and 24 months, a toddler will start trying to run. As with most motor skills development, it really varies for every child. My nephew started running at 18 months while my niece who is currently 19 months is still in the “experimenting” stage. When the baby is more stable, able to bounce and dance, he/she will likely start to try running soon. In the initial stages, a parent may have to guide the child by giving simply verbal instructions to get him/her to slow down. Falls will be expected so just pay attention to the surroundings for sharp corners to prevent unnecessary injuries.
