Blood in stool of baby
BLOOD IN STOOLS OF A BABY In my practice, the most common cause of blood in stools of a baby is cow's milk allergy and it's not a medical emergency. You can read it more here: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=328028898926026&id=100212745040977&mibextid=Nif5oz But there's also an uncommon cause of blood in stools that is a medical/surgical emergency called INTUSSUSCEPTION. Intussusception is a condition that can cause severe belly pain. It happens when one part of the intestine slides into another part of the intestine (either small or large intestine). This causes blockage so air, fluid, and food may get stuck. Majority of cases of INTUSSUSCEPTION have no clear cause and about 30% experienced a viral infection before the onset of symptoms. Intussusception happens most often in babies and children younger than 3 years old. What are the symptoms of an intussusception? ✅Severe belly pain that comes in waves usually at first happening every 15 to 20 minutes, but the episodes get closer over time. The pain usually makes children cry and pull their knees up into their belly. ✅Vomiting ✅Bloody stools that resemble a jelly that's why it's called "currant jelly stools" ✅Being very sleepy and hard to wake up If your baby has the following symptoms, bring him/her to emergency room.
