When Dwayne was diagnosed with ASD, we were very anxious about a lot of things. But, at the same time he developed and surprised us with so unique abilities. Truly, Autism is not a disability, it’s a different ability.
Autism Consciousness Week is celebrated every third week of January in accordance with Proclamation 711 of 1996. With the theme : " NURTURING PUBLIC-PRIVATE ALLIANCES TOWARDS AN AUTISM-OK PHILIPPINES".
WHO defines Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) as a group of complex brain development disorders wherein an individual experiences difficulty in communicating, socializing, and adapting to their environment.
1 in 100 Filipinos are on the autism spectrum. Which is why, with the increasing prevalence
of autism in the Philippines, we must work together towards inclusivity, awareness, and
participation.
When we promote a safe environment for persons with autism, we enable them to live
dignified, productive, and independent lives.
