My daughter (3,5 yo) has trouble sitting still and paying attention, but only in certain situations like when eating... or doing something like drawing. Could it be ADHD doc???

Hi Doc... My 5-year-old struggles to focus during simple tasks and gets easily distracted.... Could this be a sign of ADHD, or is it just a phase that will improve with age?

Yes, difficulties with focusing and distractibility are potential signs, but they are only 2 out of the 18 symptoms of ADHD (both inattentive and hyperactive/impulsive presentations). It’s hard to tell without a proper assessment, but you could check the full list of symptoms here https://www.additudemag.com/adhd-test-for-kids/ or here https://caddac.ca/about-adhd/ages-0-6-yrs/ and consider if these behaviours are present both in school and at home and occurs across a variety of tasks/activities.

Questions doc... If there is someone in the family who has ADHD, should I be more vigilant in looking for symptoms in my son? How strong is the genetic link?

does this apply to adults too. because sometimes i feel like i ave ADHD 😂😂😂😂😂😂 never had any professional assessment before.

Hi doc, can you share some tips or activities or exercise that can help the parent and child manage ADHD. like typical foods to avoid, screentime etc

Exercise has been shown to improve ADHD symptoms and I’ll encourage you to explore options with your child eg cycling, swimming, ball games are all great options. Food wise, avoid high sugar diets and artificial food colouring where possible. I do find that children with adhd are often more susceptible to screen addiction, perhaps due to their difficulties with self control, impulsivity and the dopamine boost they get. So it’s important not to allow total freedom before they have the ability to self-regulate, but instead discuss with them and set realistic limits that are enforceable.

doc... Is it possible to spot early signs of ADHD in a 3-year-old? What behaviors should I look out for in my preschooler?

Doc… Currently pregnant here 🙋‍♀️ is there any food/ consumptions that can cause baby born with ADHD?

Doc is it possible for a child to have ADHD but STILL performing well academically?

I've heard ADHD can present differently in girls than in boys... is it true doc???

Thank u asian parent for hosting this session with ADHD topic!!!!!!
