At what are kids ready to run for a marathon and what distance is suitable for a 12 year old?

Some running events do not impose age requirement e.g. http://www.looneytunesfunrun.com.sg/ Here is a calendar list of upcoming running events: http://www.runningguild.com/index.php/runningcalendar/

thanks
