Low Papp-a level

Hi anyone tested with low Papp-a level after FTS screening? Will it affect the pregnancy?

Aiyoh don't worry too much first, but good that you're asking around! My friend went to her gynae after getting low PAPP-A result and the doctor explained it's not a confirmed diagnosis lah, it's more like a flag that means they'll monitor you more closely, for things like pre-eclampsia or placenta issues down the road. Someone in my mum WhatsApp group mentioned her gynae also checked her uterine artery blood flow and some extra placental protein markers together with the PAPP-A, because apparently looking at everything together gives a clearer picture than just one number alone. My neighbour's sister had low PAPP-A too and her pregnancy turned out fine, but she did have more frequent check-ups, so on one hand it's extra stress, on the other hand at least you get closer monitoring, right? Some mums in our group felt reassured once their gynae explained the next steps, a few others found it stressful waiting for follow-up scans, so I think how your doctor communicates really makes a difference. Definitely worth having a proper sit-down chat with your own gynae or a specialist who can look at your full FTS results together, they'll be able to give you the most accurate picture for your specific situation!

A low PAPP-A result doesn't automatically mean there will be a problem with the pregnancy, so try not to panic. Many mums with low PAPP-A go on to have healthy pregnancies and healthy babies. It can be associated with a higher risk of things like a smaller baby, high blood pressure in pregnancy, or placental issues, which is why your doctor may recommend closer monitoring, extra growth scans, or other follow-up checks. The good thing is that your healthcare team already knows about it and can keep a closer eye on both you and baby throughout the pregnancy 😊
