I had it with my second pregnancy recently. Went labour at 1230am, contractions was interval of far apart. Break waterbag between 2am to 4am (if i correctly remember) contraction still the same, then they put the hormone drip (oxytocin) at about 5am, then contractions kick in pretty close but still not active labour yet. After using epi at about 7am/8am then I give birth at 9.02am It will take awhile before you feel it. It can be more tense, contractions will be painful stronger as compared to natural. Your pain tolerance level and willpower has to be very strong.
