Baby diarrhoea

Hi all, my 5M old LO has diarrhoea for 6 days already. He was on mixed feed (70% BM). Went to see PD and was prescribed Vivomixx probiotics. Was advised to give fully BM or change to other FM (gentlelease etc) and monitor for another week as it will slowly recover. We decided to go fully BM on 4th day but LO is still pooping frequently although he is feeding well and active. My question is whether any mummies continued fully BM and how long does it take to recover? Appreciate any advice. Thanks.

It is completely normal to feel anxious when the frequent pooping doesn't stop immediately, but since you only switched to 100% breast milk (BM) on day 4, his gut is likely still inflamed and taking time to heal. When babies get diarrhea, it temporarily knocks out the lactase enzymes in their gut line, meaning even the natural sugars in BM can keep stools loose for a week or two while things reset. The most reassuring sign is that he is still active and feeding well! Many mummies who stuck with full BM found it took anywhere from 7 to 14 days for the gut to fully recover and for stools to firm up again. Just keep up with the Vivomixx probiotics as prescribed, monitor his wet diapers to ensure he stays well-hydrated, and give his little system another few days to settle down.

Hi mama, if your PD has assessed your baby and he's still feeding well, active, and having good wet diapers, that's reassuring. ❤️ Many babies can take 1–2 weeks for their stools to fully settle after a diarrhoea episode, even after switching to full breast milk. Continue monitoring hydration and follow your PD's advice. If you notice fewer wet diapers, lethargy, fever, blood in the stool, or worsening symptoms, do seek medical review again. 😊
