Should you really buy organic?

I read that the following foods are considered the dirty dozen and I must buy organic for them. Are there any that have been missed out? * Peaches * Apples * Sweet bell peppers * Celery * Nectarines * Strawberries * Cherries * Lettuce * Grapes * Pears * Spinach * Potatoes

Are organic fruits and vegetables more nutritious?

This question remains controversial, as some studies have shown organic foods to be more nutritious than non-organic, while other studies have shown similar health benefits for both. What is very clear, however, is that non-organic foods have much higher pesticide, growth hormone and antibiotic residues than organic foods. It is widely thought that these chemical residues, taken over a lifetime, even in small amounts at a time, may be a key contributor to the development of cancers and other chronic degenerative diseases. Often, there are more antioxidant compounds in organic produce than in conventional produce, but the rest of the nutritional profile is similar.

When it concerns fruits and vegetables - what does the term ORGANIC mean?

Organic fruits and vegetables basically means the produce are grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, genetically modified organisms, or ionizing radiation.

Im shopping on a small budget (< 25) and organic products are quite pricey - which fruits and vegetables would you recommend I buy organic and which would you recommend I not?

I have been using alot of organic stuffs for my baby because I felt its safe. But I was wondering how can we be sure the items we purchase are 100% organic. Because organic aint cheap, anyways to see and take note so we will not get cheated? And what are the beneficial of using/consuming organic? As for milk powder, Is it really necessary to start organic since birth? IS organic milk powder and cereals better then regular ones?

Something’s officially organic when more than 95 percent of its ingredients are labelled “certified organic” by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) or another accredited certifying agent. A product that’s “made with organic ingredients” contains only 70 percent or less of certified organic products. Only a handful of countries issue organic certifications through accredited third-party organisations. They include the US, Canada, members of the European Union, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Thailand Singapore is unable to get a real organic certification logo because of the density of its air traffic at relatively low altitudes. Due to the island’s small size, airplanes landing in Changi and at military sites fly over the whole island, depositing pollutants in the atmosphere and on potential agricultural sites. Some farmers, like Zenxin Organic for example, are as close to “organic” as we can get here in Singapore. “Freedom Eggs”, from hens raised in Singapore, are not far from being true organic eggs, as the hens aren’t caged or given hormones or antibiotics in their feed. All truly organic products found in Singapore, however, come from abroad. Thailand is the closest country with a reliable organic certification logo.

I think organic food products are healthier as there is less pesticide residue and bacteria associated with them. However, I know if you thoroughly wash your vegetables, you can reduce pesticide residue, dirt and bacteria. Hence, are organic food products really worth the extra cost?

Yes they are worth the extra cost as you will never be able to wash it all off. Agree with the above answer, follow the D12 list to start of and you'll reduce by about 80% your pesticide intake. Organic is more expensive because more labour is often required, farms are generally smaller and the certification process can be expensive.

There so many kids organic shampoo n babybath in the market to choose from, how can we identify which brand suit our kids more

The only way is to try it? There is no 1 shampoo fits all. Babies have sensitive skin. What may work for me, may not be for you. Anyways, im using sebamed and gaia.
