By the time your kid is 8 or 9, you can share the history but all children can learn about the harvest holiday aspects of Halloween. And if you want to tell then you can edit some of the spookier aspects for younger children. Use your backyard or community garden to talk about Halloween used to mark the end of the harvest season. And probably that this day one can dress up something they imagined.
