While breastfeeding how do you stop/pause baby latching onto your breast?

Normally, I don't stop my baby when she is latching. In the beginning when she didn't know how to latch properly and it hurt my nipples, I would do what the nurses suggested which was to use my little finger to break the suction between my baby's mouth and breast. Once a bit of air gets in and breaks the suction, your baby will unlatch.

You can also try gently pulling down your baby’s chin. This will get your baby to open his/her mouth where you can remove your nipple. My friend did this to unlatch her baby because her baby really likes suckling for comfort.
