Personally, I reckon university level is the best age. My cousin was sent to boarding school at 12 and she did not enjoy it. She went through puberty without her parents and there were times she wished she could ask her mother for sensitive advice instead of her teachers and dorm mistresses. She had to grow up really quick, she said. Good thing is she got really independent but she admits that she secretly resents her parents for it sometimes. The first time I studied abroad was in my second year of university while I was on exchange. It was the perfect time in my life to explore, be free and make my own decisions (both good and bad). And most importantly it was my choice to go abroad.
