Honestly, I am still to decide which one would really best suit my preschooler but I love the idea of Montessori and Im leaning more towards it. Allowing children's skills to flourish at their own time, training children to be independent and disciplined for work time and play time are a few of the things I like about Montessori. Knowing my child's learning pace and having observed her work ethics, I think this method will best nourish and develop her skills. There are a lot of advantages for each method of teaching and I think the disadvantages will only depend on each child because they all have needs unique to them anolne. Mine, for one, is not too comfortable with older children but she is fond of looking out for those that are younger than her. From what I understand, Montessori is under the progressive type of school. Other kinds under the progressive category are Waldorf, Reggio Emilia, John Dewey, Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences (M.I.) and those schools with a mixture of different progressive approaches. Personally, I am leaning towards Montessori as it trains the child to be independent.
