Sometimes, there is no way to avoid it but I generally tell my patients to take small frequent meals, avoid products and food that cause excessive gas for some people (e.g. beans, spicy food, oily food). For those who are lactose-intolerant, avoid dairy products. Ginger tea can help to a certain extent. If all these fail, I will tell my patients to see a doctor. The doctor may give antacids. Most over-the-counter antacids such as Mylanta and Gaviscon are safe for pregnancy.
