Hi mama, I understand the worry but let me share some perspective that might help ease your mind a little. At 32 weeks and 4 days, the average baby weight is around 1.7 to 1.9kg, so 2.6kg is on the larger side. However it is really important to know that ultrasound weight estimates at this stage can have a margin of error of up to 10 to 20%, meaning the actual weight could be meaningfully different from what the scan shows. Having GDM and being on Metformin means your team is already monitoring you closely which is exactly the right thing. The good news is that Metformin combined with dietary management does help control blood sugar and therefore baby's growth rate. The fact that you are already on medication means you are doing what you can. A few things worth discussing with your doctor at your next appointment: Whether your GDM is well controlled based on your recent blood sugar readings, as this is the biggest factor in how much baby grows in the remaining weeks. Whether they anticipate baby will continue growing at this rate or whether the growth might slow. What their plan is for delivery timing and mode, as doctors managing GDM with larger babies often recommend delivering a bit earlier to avoid complications. Many mummies with GDM do deliver larger babies vaginally without issues, and many also have C-sections planned in advance when baby is measuring big. Either way your doctor will guide you on the safest option based on how things progress. You are doing everything right by staying on top of your medication and monitoring. Keep going mama, you are almost there. 🤍
