Was told hitting and screaming wont do any good to his tantrums, so ive spoken to an expect and was told to talk to him nicely. My 16 months boy is still going through tantrums and melt downs but has started improving each day. Just dont give up mummy, it is just a phrase!

Talk with the child to understand why he behave badly. Maybe he just wants your attention? Give home more time and hug/cuddle him when he throws tantrums. Physical comfort will calm him. Good luck

Hi, This is normal and happens at this age. it is better to sometimes, leave the kid on his own in these matters. Later when he cools down, just try talking to him while playing with him :)

i totally understands. My LO is now 14mths. He also happens to hit and scratch people sometimes. I realized when I hit him to stop him to do something, he learnt and will hit me back...

That was what i feared, that he'd imitate my actions. We've stopped hitting and trying a more gentle approach. There are days he cools down quickly when we hug him but there are tougher days too.

Children see children do, so we should try not to lose our cool. At this age the best way to prevent a tantrum is distraction... the child is too young to follow our “no’s”.
