Cervix Pain

Hi there. I'm currently 37 weeks and 5 days pregnant and I'm experiencing a sharp, shooting pain in my cervix/pelvic area when I walk. It feels like a quick electric jolt. Is this normal for this stage of pregnancy (like "lightning crotch"), and is there anything I should be doing for relief? Please let me know if I should be checked out. Thanks!

Yes, this sounds like lightning crotch, totally normal at 37 weeks! It's basically your baby's head pressing down on your cervix and nerves, causing those sharp electric jolts. Most mums say it only lasts a second or two, though some get longer episodes where it feels like baby is literally dancing on the cervix for a minute, which can be quite uncomfortable but still harmless. For relief, honestly there's not much you can do in the moment, it passes quickly, but taking things slower when you walk and not pushing yourself too hard can help reduce how often it happens. The good news is it's actually a sign your cervix is softening as your body prepares for labour, which is a positive thing at this stage. That said, if the pain becomes constant rather than just sharp shooting moments, or if you notice any other changes like bleeding or fluid leaking, it's worth getting checked by your doctor or midwife just to be sure everything is fine. They'll give you peace of mind!

Hey, this one better not wait, please go see your doctor or call your gynae to describe it, especially since you're so close to delivery. Sharp shooting pains down there at 37 weeks can be a few different things, and they really need to check you out in person to be sure. It's good that you're being cautious about it. Get it sorted quickly so you can have peace of mind, okay?
