Start with small amount of cereal or fruit or veggie puree (maybe 1-2tsp) mixed with milk until it's quite runny. You can feed small amount 2-3 times a day in between milk feeds. When starting out solids it's mostly for experimentation so you don't have to feed a lot as baby's main source of nutrition is milk up to 1 year. Slowly increase the amount and texture.

For rice cereal yes I add into the milk for meal once a day cos she took quite a big bowl.
