my 18months old son doesnt call me mama/nanay

Question

my son is talking naman.. mostly english words po ang sinasabi nya. he will say the word when i ask what is this?. i think he can say more than 20 words. knows alphabets, some shapes, colors, and can even count from 1-10. he can also follow instructions like come hear, no, get the ball, etc.  my concern is he doesnt call me mama/nanay. kapag tinuturuan namin sya ni hubby he is just looking at us. then laugh.. i am so frustrated on how to teach him to call me mama.. he used to call my husband tatay/papa.. i think he recognized me. kasi kapag umaalis ako and come back to our house sumasalubong sya and smiling at me.. but still dont call me mama. im a full time mom. most of the time sa bahay lang ako.i only go outside during grocery time or if i go to church.. pero most of my time i spend it with my baby. nakakasad lang kasi pag hindi nya ko tinatawag na mama.. 😔🥺 #pleasehelp #firstbaby #advicepls #firstmom

Aww sis, I totally feel you, sobrang sakit talaga when they won't call you mama kahit ikaw ang kasama nila araw-araw! But honestly, the fact na he's talking so much, following instructions, and recognizing all those concepts is really good, some kids just take their sweet time with the "mama" label pa lang, lalo na if he hears "papa/tatay" said with so much enthusiasm from your hubby. A few of us moms noticed na sometimes ang kids nag-call ng "mama" when they NEED something (like hungry o tired), or it just clicks randomly one day, hindi talaga predictable. Try maybe na mag-exaggerate sya ng emotion kapag sya ang nag-call sa inyo, like super excited kayo and clap or something, para ma-associate niya ang word with positive reaction. But given all the development milestones he's hitting, it might help to chat with his pedia just para ma-ease your mind, some babies are just selective talkers talaga, and a doc can tell you if this is normal for his age or if there's something else going on. You're doing great by spending time with him, mama, I promise it'll come.
