I think that the principles and values that a child gains starts in the household. Growing up, i don't think that i have been that interested in politics (im not sure if kids these days hold the same attitude now) but nonetheless, the parents should be held more responsible in molding the child's principles and values than the people in/of power.
At the end of the day, values are molded most at home so be firm with what you want to teach to your kid. And guiding our kids will be more effective if we, as parents, do it as well. Walk the talk.
