Family Fun at the National Museum - A Grandparents’ Day Special

The National Museum of Singapore will be presenting the following programmes this Saturday, 24 November, in celebration of Grandparents’ Day. On top of these programmes, the museum will be offering free admission to visitors for all galleries during this weekend of 24-25 Nov, in support of the Grandparents’ Day special. This also includes free entry to ticketed exhibitions such as In an Instant: Polaroid at the Intersection of Art and Technology. (1+ years) Babes in the Forest by The Kueh Tutus Date & Time: Saturday, 24 November 2018 11.30am (45min per session) Venue: National Museum of Singapore Glass Rotunda, Level 2 Admission Fees: $8 per parent-child pair. The 10.15am session caters to crawlers (7 to 12 months old) while the 11.30am session caters to walkers (12 months to 2 years old). Description: Babes in the Forest invites toddlers and their parents to an immersive experience at the Story of the Forest multimedia installation. Watch as talented dancers make the plants come alive in a cycle of growth and decay that keeps the forest going! Your little tots are encouraged to interact with the dancers and explore the museum space in their own unique ways even after the performance is over. (1.5 – 8 years)Sensory Playdate by Home Play Singapore Date & Time: Saturday, 24 November 2018 1.30pm (90min per session) Venue:National Museum of Singapore Goh Seng Choo Gallery & Glass Atrium, Level 2 Admission Fees: $20 per child. Recommended for children 18 months to 8 years old. Each child must be accompanied by a parent/grandparent. Description: Join for a fun family bonding session through sensory play at the new Magic & Menace exhibition! Start the session with a short self-guided tour of the gallery to discover the plants and animals in 19th-century Malay Peninsula. Then visit 5 activity stations to search for plants and feed "birds" at the sensory trays, create your own play dough collage with nature materials, paint with a "durian", and make your own porcupine toy to bring home! Join on an interactive tour of the Modern Colony gallery to learn about the fashion influences and trends of the 1920s, and create your own unique paper outfit after! 7+ Gran’s Short Stories Date & Time: Saturday, 24 November 2018 3pm (60min) Venue: National Museum of Singapore Outside Goh Seng Choo Gallery, Level 2 Admission Fees: Free. Limited to 15 children on a first come, first served basis. On-site registration starts from 2.30pm outside the Goh Seng Choo Gallery, Level 2. Description: Join great-grandmother and storyteller Eliza Quek for an exploration of the National Museum of Singapore’s prized William Farquhar Collection of Natural History Drawings! Learn about the myths and histories behind the animals represented in the collection such as the owl, rook, snake, turtle and stingray. This interactive session will have the whole family sharing stories about the animals that “live” in the museum! 4+ Drop-in Craft Activity – Cube Puzzle Date & Time: Saturday, 24 November 2018 11am – 5pm Venue: National Museum of Singapore Create Room, Level 3 Admission Fees: Free. Description: In the mid-20th century, children in upper middle-class families commonly played with wooden cubes featuring a variety of faces, torsos or legs, which could be stacked to form different characters.
