COVID 19 - How to take care of baby

Hi mummies I have COVID 19 and is looking after my 10 month old at home when she is not in IFC. I am wearing a mask all the time and practising social distancing from the baby. May I know when is the 'safe period' to remove my mask if the test kit tested negative. I understand that sometimes even if the test kit is negative and we feel we have "recovered", the virus may still be contagious inside our body. Can anyone advise me when to remove my mask totally and any tips to take care of baby if contracted COVID 19? Thanks so much ! #adviceappreciated #firsttimemom

Oh mama, you are doing such a good job already by masking up and keeping distance, that is honestly the hardest part when your baby just wants to be held! From what I have heard, most doctors advise waiting until you have had two consecutive negative ART results taken 24 hours apart and you are fully symptom-free before removing the mask around young ones, since babies under one cannot mask themselves at all and have very limited protection. My friend who went through this with her infant said her PD actually told her to keep masking for a full day or two even after that first negative, just to be safe with such a young child. The trade-off is real, masking 24 hours is exhausting and makes feeding and comfort so much harder, but the risk of passing it to a 10-month-old who cannot protect herself does tip the scales toward being extra cautious a little longer. That said, every case is a bit different depending on how your symptoms progressed, so it is really worth calling your PD or GP directly to get guidance specific to your situation and your baby's health.
