I think most mothers today prefer using electric over manual because it uses less energy? Manual quite inconvenient. Electric is NOT painful if you find the right flange size according to your nipple size. For this, the hospital nurse that you deliver in maybe able to help you find the right size. It’s NOT slow and inefficient unless you get a super cheap, unknown brand pump. If you get a good hospital grade one, it works very well.
But yes, nothing works better than direct latch. Baby’s ability to latch well and suckle well is the most powerful “pump”.
Manual is perhaps only useful if your electric one breaks down and you are desperate to release milk.
