Jaundice treatment in JB

Hi mummies, I’m doing my Confinement in JB and preparing for emergencies. The confinement center said that if bb’s jaundice is high, they would recommend to send to nearby hospital rather than make the long journey back to Sg. Anyone had experience with bb being treated in JB for jaundice and what was the experience like? Thinking if jaundice is high, should I then change to confinement in sg instead.

Hey mama, I had similar worries before too. Honestly, newborn jaundice is super common and most cases are mild—usually just need monitoring or phototherapy for a day or two. JB hospitals are quite experienced with this, and if your confinement centre already has a plan to send baby to a nearby hospital if levels are high, that’s actually a good safety net. The most important thing is quick treatment, not so much the location. Unless it gives you more peace of mind to be in SG, I wouldn’t stress too much about switching plans—just check which hospital they’ll send baby to and that you’re comfortable with it.

Mild/moderate jaundice, private hospital in JB is ok. Touch n go at a nearby clinic in jb for jaundice reading usually ok as well. But yes if high, better to do in SG
