Hand expression

Hi mummies, is hand expression supposed to be painful? I saw a LC today. she told me it’s normal to be painful and to expect bruises.

Mm.. I did some hand expression for my first daughter for the first 2 days.. didn’t get any bruises. Used a bit of hot pack and massage, then gently squeezed and the colostrum came out. After day 3, my supply kicked in, then I stopped hand expression already (used electric pump subsequently for milk storage)

Yes, it will be painful if you have engorgement issues. You need to use warm compress and massage before doing hand expression. It will take some practice
