Full time breastfeeding/latching and breasts feel soft and empty at 5w+
Hi mummies! Anyone else’s breasts feel less full at 5w+? Worried about my supply

Hey mama, I totally understand the worry, but soft breasts at 5 weeks is actually a really good sign! Once your supply settles in, the engorgement goes away and your breasts will feel less full, which doesn't mean your milk has dropped at all. In fact, I've heard from quite a few mums that this is when supply actually regulates properly. The key thing is to watch your baby's wet and dirty nappies, feeds, and weight gain rather than how your breasts feel, that's the real measure of supply. That said, if baby's going through a growth spurt around this time, you might notice random mornings where you wake up engorged (prolactin is highest at night), or you could get engorged at the end of a day if you've just been feeding regularly. A few mums I know found that cold compresses, even a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a cloth, for 15-20 minutes after feeds helped with any discomfort if it happens. Definitely worth checking in with your lactation consultant or doctor just to put your mind at ease and confirm everything's tracking well with baby's growth!
