Suddenly stop Latching
Hi mummies my 5 month baby suddenly refuse to latch.. any idea why? Any tips to get him to latch?

Oh, this is really common around this age, it's called a nursing strike and it can be so stressful! A few things that helped mums I know: if you've been mixing bottle and breast, baby may just find the bottle easier since milk flows faster, so try using a slow-flow nipple when bottle feeding so the breast doesn't feel like too much effort by comparison. One thing that actually worked for me was expressing a little milk directly onto the nipple before trying to latch, just to give baby a taste and encourage them to try, honestly sounds silly but it did help those first few attempts. I'll be real though, it doesn't always click back immediately, and one of my friends ended up pumping and bottle-feeding expressed milk for a while before her baby was willing to latch again, so don't feel like you've failed if you need to take a step back. Also worth checking your latch position, sometimes when babies get fussy we accidentally guide them to the nipple tip instead of a deep latch, which makes it uncomfortable for both of you and puts baby off even more. Do check with your doctor or a lactation consultant though, especially if the strike goes on more than a few days, as they can assess what's really going on for your specific baby.
