Is it more expensive to raise sons or daughters?

According to a 2012 study conducted by the US Department of Agriculture, a middle income family with a child born in 2012 will spend about $241,000 ($301,970 adjusted for projected inflation) on child-rearing expenses for the next seventeen years...so either way, a child is going to be expensive! In any case, a study by lovemoney.com found that daughters cost more than sons because they have expensive hobbies, have more expensive clothes, and also get more expensive parties. However, a report by Halifax Bank found that boys cost more, primarily because of extra school uniform, sports things, and furniture needed for boys because it wears out. I don't think there's much of a difference and both sides of the coin of this particular argument seem to balance out. Personally, I believe girls are more expensive to raise compared to boys. Just thinking all of the clothes, accessories and supplies my parents have bought us, I think they've really spent quite a lot. I always tell myself, sometimes I'm lucky to have a boy, because I don't get to splurge on shopping for him. :D It seems like there are really a lot of cute finds for girls while for boys, they come not so often.
