12 months 9 days old milestone

Hi moms, may i know what are the milestones your baby achieved at 12 months? My baby hasn't started saying any words except "mamam (food)". He also doesn't know how to play sorting shapes toys or building blocks yet. Still puts everythibg in his mouth. He understands some words i say tho but i'm worried because the milestones i mentioned above, i read, babies are supposed to do that already. I'm a first time mom

Honestly, don't worry too much, the speech window is really 12 to 18 months for that first meaningful word, so your little one is still well within range, and understanding words you say is actually a really good sign that his receptive language is on track. The sorting shapes and blocks thing is similar, some babies only start showing interest in those closer to 14 or 15 months, and mouthing everything at 12 months is still pretty normal too. My own son was mostly babbling at 12 months and only started clearer words a couple of months later, so I know how anxious that waiting feels. That said, every child does develop at their own pace, and since you're already noticing and tracking things closely, it's definitely worth bringing up your specific concerns with your PD at the next visit, they can refer you to a speech therapist early if needed, and earlier is always better than waiting too long.
