Brown discharged
I’m 39 weeks today. I went for my check-up yesterday, and the doctor checked my cervix to see if I was dilated, but it wasn’t yet at 1 cm. About two hours later, I noticed a brown discharge, and it has continued until today but bit by bit. Is this normal? I haven’t had any contractions yet.
Hi mum, that brown discharge is most likely the mucus plug or part of it coming away, it's actually a really good sign that your body is getting ready, even if you're not feeling contractions yet. The cervical check yesterday probably helped loosen things, so what you're seeing now is pretty normal. A few mums I know had this brownish discharge for a day or two before anything else happened, and others had it followed by cramping and then contractions came on, so everyone's timeline is a bit different. Since you're at 39 weeks and not dilated yet, there's no rush, but it's worth keeping an eye on whether the discharge changes colour (gets redder or more bloody) or if you start feeling contractions, that's when you'd want to head in or call your doctor. Definitely check in with your own doctor or midwife about what you're seeing, just to be sure everything's progressing the way it should for you.
