KKH subsi to private

I recently tried to call KKH to convert to private patient from subsidised patient. The appointment hotline very quickly booked an appointment for me as a private patient with my desired gynae giving me a few appointments dates. However, they didnt ask me my EDD. Can i check if securing an appointment means that the chosen private doctor would be the one delivering (confirmed)? Or I have to check with the doctor for her availability for my delivery during my first appointment with her?

Good question! From what I understand, booking the appointment doesn't automatically lock in your doctor for delivery, it's more just confirming she'll see you for your prenatal visits. You'll definitely want to check her availability and confirm the delivery arrangement during your first appointment with her, especially since they need your EDD to check her schedule around that time anyway. My friend converted to private at KKH and had to do exactly that at her first visit, the admin just booked the clinic slot, but the delivery confirmation happened after the doctor reviewed her dates and could guarantee she'd be on call then. The good news is most private doctors do try to accommodate, but it's not automatic, so best to clarify early. Also, do ask about the full delivery package costs while you're at it, since private fees at KKH can vary quite a bit depending on what's included!

By right yes the dr will be the one you see all the way till edd but sometimes unforeseen things may happen (dr fell sick or need to tend to urgent family matters) then you will end up having to transfer to another dr. This happened to my friend b4 so i hope yours goes smoothly

I see, so as long as see the same gynae all the way till delivery, likely will be this gynae who delivers unless due to unforeseen circumstances…
