Alcohol during pregnancy

I recently read an article whereby a Mum said she drank the odd glass of wine during all of her five pregnancies. My wife would never even take a sip of alcohol during pregnancy, due to the risk. What do Mums here think? Is even a small amount of alcohol safe during pregnancy?
