I've come across this very helpful Facebook post about toddlers' tantrums. According to it, whenever your kid throws one, it's best to stay calm and make sure your kid feels you understand him. Keep him feeling safe. Reasoning won't really work for a toddler in tantrum. You can also give him/her space so your kid will be able to vent out the feelings contained inside him/her. Check this album on Facebook so you can have a guide on toddlers throwing fit. https://m.facebook.com/306222536094622/albums/1142751185775082/ Image from Kids' World

At the very first sign of a tantrum, we stop it. This is even before the crying and shouting begins. We distract the kid right away with a toy, a book, a crayon, or anything.
