How do you potty train a boy? Should they pee sitting or standing when they first start out?

While potty training my son, I asked him to stand while peeing. To keep things interesting: put a piece of breakfast cereal (something colorful like Fruit Loops) in the toilet and have boys "aim" their pee at it.
