post partum low blood pressure and dizziness

Hii mommies, I'm 6 weeks postpartum, had high BP 180/100 5 days postpartum. Dr did all the blood works, no postpartum preclampsia. Was given a dose of labetolol at the emergency. Discharged with no medications. BP settled after 1 week. My BP was 100/110 over 70/85 throughout my whole pregnancy. Now im feeling persistently dizzy and having low BP 85/60. Getting blurred vision, tingly tongue and hands and shortness of breath intermittently. Seen my gynae yesterday. BP was normal there 100/70. Dr did some blood works too, came back normal. I'm partially breastfeeding, pumping 3 hourly, sometimes I skip night pumps, output about 60-100mls each pump, still on prenatal vitamins and iron tablets. Unsure if it is related, this is an IVF pregnancy and I was in preterm labour from 32 weeks- delivered at 36 weeks (induced). Just very afraid that I might drop my daughter when carrying her. Anyone encountered this?#pregnancy #firsttimemom #Needadvice #lowbloodpressure #dizziness #lightheaded

Hey mama, I totally understand your worry, that's a real concern when you're feeling unwell. A few things that come up a lot: breastfeeding and pumping can actually trigger dizziness in the first couple of months because of the oxytocin release and fluid shifts, especially if you're not drinking enough water throughout the day. Someone in my mum group mentioned she had similar symptoms and it improved once she bumped up her water intake and made sure she was eating proper meals with salt and protein, not skipping those. Since you're pumping frequently, your body's also losing fluids, so that could be playing a part. That said, I do think it's worth flagging to your doctor again, specifically that the dizziness is persistent even though your BP readings look okay at the clinic, because blood pressure can fluctuate during the day, and your symptoms (the blurred vision, tingling, shortness of breath) deserve a closer look, especially given your preterm labour history. Sometimes it's just dehydration and iron levels, but you want to be sure. In the meantime, try sitting or lying down when you feel a dizzy spell coming, and maybe get your BP checked at home a few times a day if you can, just to see the pattern. You're doing great, and it's really sensible that you're being cautious about safety with your daughter, that shows you're thinking clearly even when you're not feeling it.
