I DEFINITELY don't think overexposure to bright light is a good idea for babies. However this article takes expert advice to put an end to the myth that a camera flash could cause irreparable eye damage. Basically, the doctor who was interviewed claims that, “If this story were true, there would be lots of blind babies out there,” the ophthalmologist tells Yahoo Parenting. THis is reference to claims of babies in photoshoots. He also says that he operates on young babies all the time and on young babies and that he has to "shine a very bright light directly on the most sensitive parts of their eyes for up to 30 minutes at a time, and even that doesn’t cause blindness,” says Dr. Levin. “Retinas are made to last, and it’s highly unlikely that this kind of light would cause damage.” You can check out the full article here: https://www.yahoo.com/news/is-it-possible-to-blind-a-baby-with-a-camera-125356546417.html

I was a photographer and based on past lessons, yes it can cause permanent blindness to a baby. So when you shoot baby photos, remove the flash and use natural light, reflectors or wide-apertured lenses (fast lenses).
