Anal douching

Does anyone knows if anal douching is safe during pregnancy? Not for sex purpose, just to keep clean and help with bowel movement. I have a habit of anal douching to help with my constipation 🥲 wanted to know if it’s safe during pregnancy. Not sure if it’s relevant but I’m 25 weeks pregnant!

Oh, this is actually a good question to ask because I know a lot of pregnant mums deal with constipation and want to manage it safely. From what I've generally heard, a plain water anal douche (no added chemicals or soaps) is considered lower risk than something like a suppository or micro-enema, since those products contain ingredients that can irritate the bowels and trigger contractions, which is obviously something you'd want to avoid at 25 weeks. The concern with douching itself is more about using the right pressure and keeping things very gentle, since your body is already under a lot of strain. One thing I've heard mentioned as an alternative worth trying is magnesium citrate, which some mums say helps keep things moving without any of the mechanical risk, though of course that's also something to clear with your doctor first. Honestly, given that you're already in your second trimester, it really is worth a quick check with your OB or midwife before continuing the habit, just so you get advice tailored to your specific pregnancy.
