But, at the same time he developed and surprised us with so unique abilities. Truly, Autism is not a disability, it’s a different ability. Autism Consciousness Week is celebrated every third week of January in accordance with Proclamation 711 of 1996. With the theme :  NURTURING PUBLIC-PRIVATE ALLIANCES TOWARDS AN AUTISM-OK PHILIPPINES.WHO defines Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) as a group of complex brain development disorders wherein an individual experiences difficulty in communicating, socializing, and adapting to their environment.1 in 100 Filipinos are on the autism spectrum. Which is why, with the increasing prevalenceof autism in the Philippines, we must work together towards inclusivity, awareness, andparticipation.When we promote a safe environment for persons with autism, we enable them to livedignified, productive, and independent lives.References:[1] world Health Organization. OMG, this really hits home! My cousins son was diagnosed with autism last year, and honestly, it was scary at first, but seeing how hes thriving in his own way now, super observant, amazing memory, very focused on things he loves, it really changed our perspective na ito ay hindi disability kundi iba lang talaga ang way nila mag-process ng world. So grateful na may Autism Consciousness Week para ma-remind kami na kailangan natin silang i-accept and support, hindi i-fix, and na 1 in 100 Filipinos ay nasa spectrum, so maraming pamilya dyan na need ng understanding from their communities! Power to all the AUsome parents out there, kayo talaga ang real MVPs!
