3 week old diarrhea

My 3 week old has been having diarrhea for a week. Went to PD, PD advised to change to lactose free formula or Isomil. He's been on Isomil for a week already but still having diarrhea. How long will it take for the diarrhea to resolve? Or shld I change to another lactose free formula? Any recommendations?
