My Breastfeeding Journey with My Baby
As a first time Mum with lots of love bubbled, there was an intention and hope to exclusively breastfeed my baby. I however decided to be relaxed about it and to breastfeed to the best of my body's ability. Into the third month upon doing the best I could to increase my breast milk supply (including with lots of fluid and healthy food intake), my body could only produce 50% of my what my baby needed. It was really with my parents' tremendous support that I was able to keep pumping every 3-4 hours including in the wee hours of the morning. While I was glad my baby could drink Mummy's milk, it was very physically tiring and time consuming. My knees also started aching due to the long hours of sitting while pumping. There was also a emotional conflict and guilt as I pumped, while wondering was what I was doing worth it considering that it took many hours away from my physical care of my baby. After 3 months, I was back into the workforce. Knowing that with the intensity of work demands and the very short amount of time left after work, I decided to stop breastfeeding & pumping. I decided it was for my baby and my best that I should rather use the time I have at home physically caring for my baby. With the quality time spent, my baby is growing up well and with lots of strong bond with Mummy. I'm glad I made the right choice to give my baby the best life we can have as a Family. ~~~ To all amazing Mums out there, whatever you decide is best for your children, know what it is the best. Always remember that we must first be healthy mentally, emotionally & physically, so that we can then care for our children well.
